In this two day workshop you will learn how to design, carve and print multi-block linocuts in colour. You will learn what tools to use and how to keep them sharp, how to plan, carve and print a multi-block linocut and how to register the different layers to make sure they align accurately. You will learn how to mix colour and how to control the intensity and shade through tinting, transparency and varying the amount of colour on the block. There will be plenty of time for experimentation, through which you will learn how create new colours through layering and how to create a colour blend.
Each student will create a two block linocut at size 15 x 20cm. You will need to bring a small selection of images to work from, ideally at the same size (15 x 20cm). Nick can then advise you which will work best. All other materials will be provided.
Nick Morley, aka Linocutboy, has been making linocuts for more than ten years. His works have appeared on book covers, magazines and chilli sauce labels and his prints are collected worldwide. Nick writes a blog about linocut and his book Linocut for Artists and Designers was published in June 2016.
