Orizome & Suminagashi Japanese Paper Dyeing and Bookbinding
Monday 22nd & Tuesday 23rd February 2021
10am - 4pm
Using Orizome & Suminagashi Japanese dyeing techniques, this two-day workshop offers the chance to explore the effects of Orizomi geometric folding forms using mulberry paper to create endless colour combinations and patterns.
Using folding as a method of resist, the paper is dipped into dye pots, colour fixed and unfolded to reveal surprise textures and patterns. Suminagashi is a Japanese water-based marbling technique that produces stunning results.
This course promises an insight into traditional Japanese paper dyeing which can continue to be easily practised at home. On the second day of the course, the unique papers created will be used to make the covers for a series of 4 elegant Japanese stab sewn books (four-hole, noble, tortoiseshell and hemp leaf bindings).
Catering for anyone with an interest in cross-processing, bookbinding, and a love of print and pattern.
If full, please email shop@handprinted.co.uk to add your name to the waiting list.
All of our workshops take place in our studio at 22 Arun Business Park, Shripney Road, Bognor Regis, PO22 9SX.
