Saturday 21st, Sunday 22nd and Monday 23rd September 2024

10am - 4pm (all three days)

Sarah has taught a weekend fabric-painting course at Handprinted for several years, but we have found that the two days is never enough! They rush by – there's so much to learn and do! During this course, running over three days, we will be able to spend more time investigating different methods of painting in depth, and hopefully work towards a collection of samples and/or a splendid finished piece...

Alongside looking at the rhythms and structures of pattern and how they work, we'll be able to practice various techniques for painting on cotton, calico and linen – mark-making, freehand painting, stencils, potato prints, tapes, masks - as well as considering pattern placement and colour.

Participants of all abilities are welcome and all materials are provided; if you have favourite paintbrushes that you like using, please bring them along; a sketchbook and any reference materials or favourite fabrics can be helpful too.

Sarah Campbell has painted patterns all her professional life, spending the first fifty years of it painting textile designs on paper in repeat for commercial production. Alongside these works on paper she has developed an interest in painting directly onto fabric, making garments, curtains, cushions, dolls, hangings and cloths of all sorts.
