Watercolour: Paint and Print a Pile of Pebbles with Karen Carter - Thursday 24th September am

Who can resist picking up a pebble and holding it in your hand to admire its colours, textures and patterns. 
In this fun workshop we will explore a variety of ways to work with pebbles as your inspiration, using beautiful subtle colour mixes (with some neat shortcuts to creating a soft muted palette).
We will work with a range of watercolour techniques – from traditional to more unusual - to create textures and pattern, looking at making abstract compositions using printed and painted shapes and mark-making. We will create a collection of images to use for cards or wall art.

There will be lots of demos & step-by-step instruction in this fun and informal workshop. Karen will also be teaching Watercolour: Sea, Sand & Sky from 1.30 - 4pm - why not book both and make a day of it?

You will need to bring:
Heavy watercolour paper or Mixed Media paper (A4 or bigger)
Drawing pencil; dip pen if you have one,  (The tutor will also bring some)
Watercolours – whatever you have – if buying specially just buy primary colours and white (the tutor will also bring some)
Mixing palette, brushes (whatever you have),
Kitchen roll, apron (there are some aprons in the Handprinted studio)
Inspiration / source material (pebbles if you have some or pictures of pebbles – the tutor will also bring some)

Karen is an enthusiastic and experienced tutor specialising in printmaking, acrylics and mixed media. Her method of teaching is both informal but instructional, aiming to encourage everyone’s creativity in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Having worked for many years as a commercial artist she now divides her time between teaching and pursuing her own work, with involvement in exhibitions, studio trails and private commissions.
